I’m working on a writing exercise and need a sample draft to help me understand better.

Topic Options:

Write an essay by the method of classification, in which you sort one of the following subjects into at least three categories of your own. Prewriting

• Consider your subject, audience, purpose, and genre.
• Explore ideas for your essay using a technique like brainstorming, freewriting, questioning, or using the methods of development.
• Consider the most fitting way to organize your supporting points.
• You may choose to include a brief outline or a visual here.

Draft 1

• Title your essay in a way that is fitting for its content. The title of the essay should NOT be the same as the title of the document. Often times, it’s easiest to come back to this step after you’ve finished writing your first draft.
• Length of Essay: 400-600 words (4-7 paragraphs)
• Respond appropriately to one of the topic options
• Present a clear thesis
• In the body (2-5 paragraphs), include relevant, well-supported ideas
• Include an introduction and conclusion (1 paragraph each)
• Note: Plagiarism will not be tolerated. An essay that appears to be plagiarised will receive a grade of 0. Write your own essay.

How to format and submit the prewriting and first draft of your essay:

• Start a Google Doc (Links to an external site.). I highly suggest using the MLA report template.
• Title your document “Your Name, Narration Essay”
• Create two subheadings: Prewriting and First Draft. Include prewriting below the Prewriting heading, and the essay (with title) below the First Draft heading.
• Format your essay according to MLA guidelines (Links to an external site.).
