ENGL 1050 Western Michigan Lori Laughlin College Admissions Scandal Essay
Question Description
I’m working on a writing project and need guidance to help me study.
part 1
Step 1: Read Peggy McIntoshs White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack on eLearning (under week 10) and also read the piece modeled after McIntoshs piece on page 194 in Chapter 8 of your textbook. At the same time, review the section of your textbook titled Writing about Privilege, Power, and Policy with Models (pages 192-95).
Step 2: Modeled after the listing method used by McIntosh, generate a list of roughly 4-6 ways that privilege, power, and/or policy inform the equity event on which you are focusing for project 4.
Step 3: reflect on the list you created and explore how you might discuss items from your list in your project 4 position paper
Step 4: (optional) Compose the introduction to your project 4 position paper. In this introduction, state the equity event, explain who was involved, what happened and when and then state your position. Consider incorporating one or several of items from your list in step 2 into your position statement.
Minimum: 650 words
part 2
Step 1: Review the assignment sheet for the position paper.
Step 2: Draw from one of the position statements you have been developing, or use a revised version of one of these statements.
Step 3: Compose a 3-page version of your position paper. This three-page version does not just contain the first pages of the longer paper. Instead, this three-page version of your paper should be an entire paper that is written in a slightly condensed way. In other words, your three-page paper should exhibit a complete trajectory, from introduction to conclusion. (For help with your conclusion, turn to the Writing Conclusions section of your textbook on pages 219-220 in Chapter 8.)
Minimum: 3 pages, approximately 800 words
