Howard Payne University Classroom Management Discussion

Question Description

Even when a well-planned and thought-out classroom management plan is implemented, there will still occasionally be those students who do not follow the expectations. Understanding the cause for the misbehavior is often the first step in identifying more targeted methods for helping such students overcome obstacles and engage more fully in their education.

For this assignment, take on the role of a teacher with a student who is misbehaving in such a way that requires intervention, and describe the conversation you would have to address the behavior. Begin by selecting two examples of middle or secondary students acting out in class from your field experience observations or from your own classroom experiences.
For each example, write a 250-500 word script between you and the students to demonstrate how you would act in the situation, based on a particular classroom management approach. (Each approach may be the same or may be different in the two scenarios.) The approach you select should also be able to incorporate the collection and analyzation of student data. Include the following in each script:
• Background information to set up the script. Describe the classroom setting, antecedents to the behavior, and a brief description of others in witness to the situation.
• Dialogue between you, the students, and any other individuals involved in each situation. Write your script to be reflective of the classroom behavior management approach you selected to address the situation .
Beneath each script, in 100-150 words, summarize how you envision the situation would ultimately be resolved, the types of data you would use to help resolve the situation, action steps needed in the future, and any communication with students, families, school psychologist/counselor, and/or administrator.
