Florida International GPS Technology for Cold Temperature Climates Discussion

The following Discussion Guideline/Rubric is on GPS monitoring technology advancements. I uploaded a reading and two supplemental videos for you to watch for an overview. I expect for you to research GPS tech usage in fauna projects (link to one study that uses some sort of tracking technique on animals – the reading has a table with MANY study examples with references). Read the discussion guideline below to have a better idea of what you should be looking for.

Each student will need to post a summary of the biggest take-aways from a study/project that was found when researching the topic of “tracking” in an ecological setting. Follow-up your first post with a question that may have come up during your research. After your first summary post, then reply and answer a fellow student’s question

Goals/Directions of this Discussion:

• Give uses of GPS tech for contrasting species/types of Fauna (for example terrestrial vs aquatics OR large migratory species vs limited dispersal capable species).
• Provide a link to a study that uses tracking with a short statement/summary of the techniques that were used and for what reason they were designed in that particular method (the link can be video, news article, or peer-reviewed academic publication)
• How can tracking technology assist in restoration projects. Think of projects that are on different scales – species level, community level, landscape level.
