Guidelines: In this essay, I’d like you to explore a topic you’re interested in, but don’t know much about. You may choose a broad topic for a start, and then find a focused aspect of your topic as you begin to research.

For example, I might want to learn more about the US’s food system. Once I begin researching, I might find that corn plays a huge role in that system, so I would focus on that.

Remember that when you are reporting information, you are using reliable sources to learn about your topic. You’re not making an argument here (you’ll do that in your next essay); you’re merely exploring some aspect of your topic, and relaying information to your reader.

For sources, you’ll consult the library’s catalog and databases for credible, reliable information. I’ve put a link to the NCC Library page on the course’s menu in BlackBoard. You will cite the sources in your paper using MLA format.
