Inver Hills Community Lausiac History and Saying of The Desert Fathers Essay
Question Description
Pick two monastics, one from the Lausiac History and the other from the Sayings of the Desert Fathers. Admittedly, their Christian vocations likely sound a bit strange to you. But they are interesting nonetheless. Using two paragraphs (one for each), briefly describe your characters, why they chose the life they chose (a question of motivation), how their understanding of Christianity shaped their choice, and how you evaluate their choices. Your evaluation may be positive, negative, or in between. Simply state clearly the basis for your evaluation.
Each of these two paragraphs will go something like this as an example:
“I chose XXX who understood his Christian calling to be XXX. He chose this calling because XXX. His choice reflects his understanding of Christianity as XXX. I find his choice to be good/bad/interesting/confused/ because XXX.”
Write about your growing awareness of your purpose in life and your calling. What is the role of risk or cost in your personal sense of purpose or calling? How did the materials from module two and especially these two monastics impact your understanding of the role of risk and cost in your sense of purpose or calling. Most importantly, why do you say so? I ask you to be personal, since self-awareness is the first step toward reflective practice.
