The role of public health professional in policy and advocacy and as an agent of change

The role of a public health professional in policy and advocacy is to prevent public health issues by promoting, educating, implementing, and recommending policies, interventions, and services towards improving the wellbeing of the population through conducting research and engaging with communities and stakeholders, governments, and public health officials.

Moreover, public health officials are considered agents of change because they willingly seek out the issues with the communities. Thereby working together with these communities, and collaborating with the state, local and national officials to take actions against the issues by implementing solutions to bring about change to the communities (Naccarella, 2016).

Agent of change

I see myself as an agent of change, but I cannot make the changes I want to my communities because of my power level. I am an agent of change because when the pandemic initially started in 2020, I wanted to help my community by bringing awareness to the virus and help them get the help they needed. Therefore, I applied for the best position that my credentials could help in achieving my goal, which was an epidemiologist. So far, I am able to help my community not only by bringing awareness to the virus, but by helping to vaccinate my communities and those in the underserved communities who are always forgotten.
