Research Topic Proposal

So, for the topic proposal due this week, you will submit the following:

1) A research question (what question got you interested in this topic or works of literature?)

2) The name of the author(s) and works involved in your paper idea (no more than 2).

3) A working thesis statement (a one-sentence, declarative statement that serves as your current “best guess” for what your paper’s purpose will be- what it intends to prove or illustrate).

4) Proposal paragraph: this is a one-paragraph explanation for why you are interested in this idea, what you think your paper will be ‘about’ prior to research, and what you think might be the biggest challenge (if any) with this assignment. 

The Metamorphosis Discussion Forum

For this week’s Discussion Forum, provide your general thoughts on “The Metamorphosis” while addressing at least two of the following five prompts:

1. What things are left unexplained in this story? Why do you think Kafka left them unexplained?

2. Do you have sympathy for Gregor? Do you have sympathy for his family? Why or why not?

3. How does the Samsa family’s life change after Gregor is transformed into an insect? In what ways has it remained the same? Do they behave well or badly to the bug in their midst?

4. Consider the reactions to Gregor’s transformation. What is unusual about their reactions? What was unsurprising? How would you react?

5. What did Kafka try to express through the metamorphosis of Gregor Samsa? What is the point of the novella (if any)
