Compare and contrast Antigone’s heroism (and consider the appropriateness of the term in her case) to that of the male and also female characters we have encountered thus far.

HAMLET

Two choices: (A) watch a movie version of the play; discuss a few significant ways the film version affects your understanding of the play itself. (B) Returning to the theme of heroism: Hamlet is a late-stage sort of hero, we can say – with far more psychological realism in the creation of his character, perhaps, than is true for much older works. Talk about the ways his heroic stance in the play is complicated by the view we have of his interiority (his ways of thinking and feeling), with some reference to characters in earlier works we have read.
