Amridge University Color Palette Design Using Color Image & Emotions Discussion Paper

Question Description

Create color palettes that include all of the primary and secondary colors for two selected emotions. Then, create color designs to reflect those emotions.

Preparation

Prepare for this assessment by creating two tints, two shades, and two tones for each of the primary and secondary colors. Label each of these colors with emotive words such as happy, sad, angry, or peaceful. You will select from the colors you create in this preparation to create color palettes.

Directions

Create color palettes that include all of the primary and secondary colors for two of the following emotions (or other emotions that you identified in the Assessment Preparation), and create color designs to reflect those emotions.

  • Happy.
  • Sad.
  • Angry.
  • Peaceful.

Your palettes should include at least one tone, hue, or shade of each of the primary and secondary colors. Use each palette to create a color design to reflect the corresponding emotion.

Focus on how best to apply the principles of design to enhance your concepts. Take time to brainstorm about all the possible ways to represent the emotions visually. You may find it necessary to make many attempts until you create the most effective solution. Decide on the best shapes as well as colors to use to depict the emotions.

Each design should exhibit a solid understanding of the principles of design. Although different texts and resources present design in slightly different terms, the general concepts remain the same. Remember, there is not one correct answer or solution to this assessment. There are simply more effective and less effective visual solutions. Your goal is to create the most effective and visually compelling design.

Design Requirements

Your designs should meet the following requirements:

  • Use only simple geometric shapes, forms, and lines.
  • Do not use photographic, symbolic, or representational elements.
  • Designs must be in color.
  • Images must be no larger than 1,200 x 1,200 pixels.
  • Save both of the initial color palettes and the two design files in JPEG or PDF format for submission.
  • Include a brief description for each design that explains your color selections and how you used the principles of design to meet the design requirements.
Options for Drawing

Most electronic drawing applications provide the option to save your work as a JPEG or PDF file, and you will need to choose a software program with this option to complete your assessment. The suggested programs for this assessment are GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP), which is available online for download free of charge, or Microsoft PowerPoint.
