Question Description
SUPPLEMENT CHOICE: SPIRULINA
The Supplement Review project calls for each student to choose a popular nutritional supplement and review it from the perspective of hype/quack information sources(manufacturing site) and from reliable, evidence-based, scientific information sources. You will then compare the claims from the hype/quack sources with the information you discover from the more reliable sources. Though your personal experience is important it should not be the focus of this review. Again the objective it to compare the science and the hype. Students will provide their findings as a threaded discussion. A webliography of the manufacturing information as well as the scientific sources must be cited in your discussion. Please do not post as an attachment. Compose review directly in our discussion box. I will reply to all.
Do the scientific/reliable sites support the claims of the hype/quack sources?
The Details to focus on are possible benefits and side effects and types of studies done (length of time and size of the population being studied).
Cite a minimun of 2 sources from both the quack/hype sources and from the science-based sources.
Be sure to cite your information sources. Be sure to let us know what portion of your findings come from the hype websites and which come from the scientific/reliable websites.
For the Hype/Quack information, search the net as any consumer would. For scientific-based websites, our textbook will provide excellent sources in the Chapter 1 area of Nutrition Hype and Quackery or simply link to the the image below.
The project is due Friday, November 20th by 11pm.
