HIS 100 Southern New Hampshire University The History of Communication Worksheet

Question Description

Below were some of the feedback provide on my prior worksheet

1) I appreciate your interest in a topic that’s not one of the pre-selected ones provided for you. However, it’s essential that you get approval for any topic that’s outside of those boundaries so I can offer guidance and so you meet the expectations of the course. What you’ve chosen to investigate, while interesting, is not history. As you rightly point out, it’s impossible to know where music came from. And such a question is more rightly the realm of anthropology than it is anything else.

2) I can tell that you’re excited and enthusiastic about beginning your research. But I really do need to see questions that are historical in nature. Remember, our class is centered around how a knowledge of history can help us understand the world we live in today. Also, it’s intended to get you used to the kinds of approaches, challenges and methods of historical analysis. Unfortunately, I’m sorry to say that your chosen topic and your questions don’t really fit into the realm of history. For instance, I don’t believe there is any field of study that can answer how people would behave if music didn’t exist. Counterfactuals like this are impossible to answer with any certainty.

3) You’ve certainly given some thought to your selections. But I’d like to see you speak more to exactly how this source will help you answer your questions. Why will this particular source be more useful than other ones you could have chosen? This is especially important since you’re not exactly working within the boundaries of historical analysis here.

4) The composition of your text paragraphs is decent. However, your citations are improperly formatted and are missing essential information. This information is essential to help your reader know precisely what source you’re using. Consider looking at the Purdue OWL website to get a feel for how to use APA citations as required in the course. https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/section/2/10/
