The discussion is

Without a doubt, contemporary analysis of cissexism – the oppression of trans people by/to benefit cisgender people – and LGBTQ+ studies more generally, have both been touched by feminist theory and politics, for better or worse. As a continually rising contemporary movement, we should understand not only the contributions feminism has made to LGBTQ studies, but also the forms of feminism that have and continue to negate trans existence.

This week’s readings continue our focus on the way gender is produced, but this time formulated through the specific concerns of feminism, especially feminisms in the 60’s-80’s. We’ll break this ground by tracking gender deviance in one of the assigned readings for this week. Choose one of the selections, and discuss some of the ways gender deviance seems to be a concern for the given writer. You should focus on what kind of deviance from gender norms is being tracked, the specific/concrete details that indicate that deviance, and how those details connect with facets of identity – race, class, sexual orientation, nation, religious practice, ability, etc. – beyond gender.

In your response, discuss some of the relevant details from your chosen example. (This assumes you are responding to someone who has NOT written about your reading.) Compare/contrast your responses.
