Analyze the Evidence

Questions (please answer these questions for as long as they needed to be)

• What are the 3 pieces of evidence that are most supportive of the argument that the criminal justice system discriminates against people of color?
• What explanation would you give for your selection or weighting of the strongest or best evidence?
• What other rationale than discrimination could you give for each piece of evidence?

Read the data in the 10 graphs and select 3 pieces of evidence that you consider the strongest evidence of discrimination in the criminal justice system. Enter the title of the graph in the left column of the Weight of Evidence Chart below.

Then in the middle column write in your reason or argument for why you consider this the strongest evidence of discrimination in the criminal justice system.

Then in the third column, try to think of a different reason than discrimination for the evidence. For example, you might suggest that heightened danger in inner city environments (where many poorer African and Hispanic Americans live) may affect police judgment and make officers more belligerent.
