SMC The Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas & the Secret Documentary Discussion

Question Description

Often times, one of the keys to connecting with or better understanding “literature,” which can seem daunting or intimidating, is to recognize all the different ways that we encounter versions of it in small or more familiar places. While we will discuss Creative Non-Fiction academically in this unit, it might be helpful to track other ways we’ve encountered this genre and why it works the way it does, especially in contemporary ways.

I want you to post an example of creative non-fiction that you have enjoyed in the last year. This could be a documentary film, a YouTube series, a podcast, or any number of other types of media presentations. You may link actual media, or a page of summary, or even tell us in detail about the particular example. If you are unsure if something qualifies, you can always message me to find out. Include one or two sentences explaining why you chose the item you chose and what drew you in or connected with you.

For the replies that you will contribute to your classmates’ posts, I’d like you to do just a bit of surface level analysis – does this count as “creative non-fiction”? Why/Why not? Are there particular cultural/gender/sexual/geographical/political or other elements that cause you to connect with it as well or possibly reject it or have trouble connecting to it?
