ASCC Malonate Competitive Inhibitor of The Enzyme Succinate Dehydrogenase Discussion

Question Description

Enzymes play an important role in a variety of biochemical processes. Inhibition of those processes can be either useful or harmful. The “Chemistry at the Crime Scene: Enzymes, Nerve Agents, and Poisoning” box on page 680 discusses one example of an enzyme inhibitors. For this discussion, you will do some research to find an enzyme inhibitor. The example of Sarin is already used, so you may not pick this inhibitor. Everyone must choose a different inhibitor, so you will need to read the posts before you choose your inhibitor to make sure it is still available. You will look up information about your inhibitor (in your textbook and/or online) and post a brief summary. You should cite the sources you use. Your summary should include:

  • The name of your inhibitor (make this the title of your thread)
  • The enzyme targeted by the inhibitor
  • The consequences of this enzyme inhibition
  • Anything else about this inhibitor you discovered in your research that you found particularly interesting
