1. Alienation and rejection from society are apparent in “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock,” where the speaker has a high and remarkable disconnection from society and displays actions that do not appear rational. Prufrock establishes the idea of an empty man with such extreme nihilistic views that they come across as repulsive and incomprehensive. Thus, what does it mean to be “overly conscious”? How can being overly conscious become a disease, or a bad thing?
