Has the world reached its manufacturing peak? With current conditions, do you feel manufacturing will settle? and How?
Reflection:
Oliver Scalabre goes on Ted Talks to talk about the uprise in manufacturing in the near future; which was his theory from the year 2016, and that future would include improved methods of manufacturing that will benefit growth of the economy. In some ways Scalabre is correct with his prediction of robots becoming a companies source to improve manufacturing but it unfortunately isn’t the only source. Though he is not wrong to assume that robotics will be the successor to help boost productivity in manufacturing but the reality of it is moving slower than he once predicted. Some companies already implement robotic machines to help out with some basic task but certain task become difficult to program, so they have people perform those task. Though with recent working conditions due to the pandemic, it seems more apparent that manufacturing has reached its peak and having to assure work safety conditions has become more important than ever. It appears that Scalabre was in fact onto something, but perhaps his prediction will need to take sometime to fruition.
Do you believe programming more robots to assist with these conditions would help maintain manufacturing during the course of the pandemic?
Opinion:
Due to the current pandemic I feel that the world has experienced low stock in many important items due to difficulties obtaining products they need to put things together or lack or workers with work conditions being unsafe. This had halted production for some time with many companies and created problems in manufacturing. This made me wonder if further implementation of robots to certain factories would help with the production rate or perhaps at least keep is steady with current conditions. This of course is not to say that robots should take over the supply line but may it should help take up some easier task and have works for the more hands on task. The idea alone exist for some companies but not for all. This seems like a great solution for the current conditions that we live in but there is only one way to tell and it’s by putting the idea in place. Though sadly the idea might take a few years to becoming a possibility due to the difficulties of implementing robots and programming them to perform task effectively.
How would it effect us in the future?
Can we see production lines filled with robots or is there going to be a balance between robots and people?
Unlike the objective of far too many companies, manufacturing is not about a quick ‘exit.’ It is centered on long-term value creation.

Why is it important to make medical data understandable for patients?
Medical data and charts have always been very hard to understand, also hard to access as a patient. However, it is information that shows doctors what is going on with us, and can help patients understand how to get better, if they knew how to read it. Thomas Goetz mentions how better health can be made if we gave more information, understandable information, to the person. He goes through an example with dentists and the experiment that was done to make people floss and brush more. The two variable they measured was level of fear instilled and the efficacy of the patients. It turns out that those who had a higher efficacy had better results. According to Thomas Goetz, this was since the person was able to see a path toward better health.
Redesigning Medical Data:
It is important to redesign medical data because it instills a sense of control. The person who is reading it will be able to understand the information, make a plan of what to change, and have a higher chance of making those changes for better health. Thomas talks about a redesign of medical drug facts that we see everyday. You know, the page long information about what the medical drug does, the side effects, and apparently some other good information that we do not read. Students redesigned it to look like the nutrition facts from cereal boxes. It told the person what the drug is, what it does, the potential side effects, and more personalized information that made it easy to read. This was crazy to think about because it made such complex information so easy and familiar to read – like how nutrition facts have become easier to read.
Personal Opinion:
I believe that having information that is understandable is very helpful and effective in making behavioral changes. At my previous job I was able to get blood work done to help lower my health insurance rates. Initially I did it for the obvious, to get those lower rates and save money on the future. After I got my blood work done, I was able to read a report that they had personalized just for me. It was full of scales that showed where I was in HDL, LDL, etc., and then showed what the healthy and unhealthy ranges were. It also told me what I would have to do to reach those healthy ranges. This was unbelievably helpful for me because I was able to understand all the information that was on the paper. It was in plain English and it was targeted toward me and not a medical professional, like what Thomas Goetz was talking about. I thought that it was very valuable information and has stuck with me since. What are your thoughts on making medical information easier to read?
