ACC Colombia River Have High Concentration of Dioxins & PCB Discussion

The purpose of this discussion is to research and communicate how water quality affects seafood.

You will have the opportunity to develop skills/knowledge in:

• identifying common water pollutants, their source, health impacts and how they can be prevented or mitigated
• researching the affect of water quality on seafood products
• communicating how to reduce your toxic exposure from seafood products

Complete the following tasks for this discussion:

• Visit the Fish Consumption Advisory for Washington State from the Department of Health map for freshwater (Links to an external site.) or saltwater (Links to an external site.). Click on a water body you have visited or heard of. In your post, share any contaminants of concern and any species to be avoided or limited. For example, I see that the Lower Duwamish River in Seattle has crab that no one should EVER eat because of PCB contamination.
• Next, look through one or more of the following resources. Post something you learned about how to reduce your exposure to toxics in seafood products.

• Finally, respond to one other student’s post with whether or not you have visited the water body they are talking about and how familiar you are with the issue of toxic contamination of waterways (possibly that water body specifically).
