Strive to use the critical thinking skills of analysis, synthesis, and evaluation as you relate your post to the reading, lecture, any videos for the week, and other discussion postings. Remember to cite your sources with an in-text citation. You do not need a Works Cited page, though.

Critical discussion includes your opinion of things you mention, but it also includes the reasons you hold that opinion, and why it may be inconsistent or consistent with what you’ve learned. Justify your reasoning with facts. So far, we have learned about cultures spanning millennia. You may also want to consider how what you’re presenting is related to previous cultures and future situations.

Aim for a posting of at least three paragraphs according to the discussion directions linked above. As always, strive to move the discussion forward with your replies to your group members.

1. How is “Romanticism” an aesthetic style, a movement, and an attitude of mind? Is Romanticism a uniquely Western phenomenon?
2. Which landmarks of the nineteenth century typify the Romantic sensibility? Are any of these landmarks associated with European nationalism?
3. What Romantic landmarks served to glorify the self as hero and visionary?
4. Nature and the sublime inspired many artists and thinkers of the Romantic era. Which landmarks are most representative of these themes?
