Theories are important when it comes to research. According to Perrin (2015), “A theory is a set of related concepts that present a systematic view of events, issues, and situations in order to explain them or make predictions…” (p. 80). They are usually based on facts, principles, and laws. Also, “theories are used to test a hypothesis, investigate a phenomenon, or validate an existing body of knowledge” (Perrin, 2015, p. 81). In the case study, the team members from the clinic strategic planning meeting decided to upgrade the patient management system to having things being done electronically. However, training is needed for employees to get the hang of this new system implementation. Since Ms. Hill is the training administrator, she was the one in charge of the training process. In order for Ms. Hill to evaluate the training process, she used theories, such as the Social Learning Theory and the Diffusion of Innovations Theory.
I think Ms. Hill decided to use a theoretically based way to get the new employees trained on the new computer system, rather than just mandate that they all be trained in it and start using it because she wanted the employees to undergo training with a positive experience. Also, in the case study, it stated the reason that “she selected this theory instead of conducting the training by department because she knew that the innovators would seek out the training first and their positive comments would encourage the early adopters to sign up next” (Perrin, 2015, p. 105). This is an effective way to grab more of the employees’ attention and spark interest in them. It is a way to encourage them to want to undergo training on their own free will

Hello everyone,
For this week, we discuss different types of theories that have to do with various settings in the place of work. Upgrading to new technology is always important since it means that the organization is advancing. Ms.Hill is familiar with behavioral theories which are, great for her role since she can analyze who has previous experience in specific fieldsin this case, upgrading to new technology. For some employees,s its a challenge to adapt to new systems, especially when it comes to technology in the work environment. Implementing new strategies, its vital for the organization, but its also what makes the organization a little challenging for those who are not able to adapt to changes or upgrades. As Perrin, K.M mentioned, There are two common types of strategic planning models. One is goal-based, and the other is issue-based. Goal-based strategic planning involves starting with a goal or mission statement and then developing the action plan to meet the goals, for example, to improve clinic staff retention. Issue-based strategic planning begins with examining the issues or problems that need to be addressed, then prioritizing the issues and working toward an action plan to solve the problems, for example, the increasing cost of training new clinic staff, the number of clinic staff resignations in the past 12 months, the specific type of clinic staff resigning, results of exit interviews to determine reasons for resignation (Perrin, K. M,2015, p). In this case, Ms.Hill wanted to implement a new electronic medical record (EMR) system that would minimize the amount of paper usage. This will make the office look great since its great for the organization. Ms.Hill used the Theory of Goal Attainment, where she observed and used those who volunteer to be the boosters for her new upcoming idea of implementing the EMR system in the office. Ms.Hill did the right thing by allowing those who are more comfortable with change and technology to be the testers of her idea. She knew that by allowing those who were willing to participate with the training, would bring positive feedback to the rest of the employees.
