Dear Students – in addition to our current pandemic, International Health (2020) states that some of the major diseases currently affecting countries around the globe include HIV/AIDS, malaria, Zika and tuberculosis. Climate change is also an international problem which can affect people’s health. Many countries and health organizations are working together and sharing information on these and other health issues (para.3.). Any thoughts on these issues? What role do you see the United States playing in the contribution to data and information sharing as it relates to global healthcare policy?

Week 3 Assignment: Global Health Case Study

Objective: Explain the importance of healthcare professionals in the United States maintaining current knowledge of diseases and/or outbreaks affecting other countries.

Instructions

• Visit the Central Intelligence Agency. This link opens to the World Factbook. Click the search drop-down menu Please select a country to view.
• Select a developing country of interest to you.
• Scroll down the country page and click the People and Society plus (+) sign.

Note: “Developing country” is the term currently used for Third World country. A developing country is a country that is on the verge of experiencing industrialization.

Assignment

Report specific health-related issues, including the following:

• Population size
• Birth rate
• Health expenditures
• Drinking water
• Sanitation
• Major infectious diseases
• Write one page describing what you consider to be the most dangerous infectious disease found in this country. Do this by imagining which disease would affect health care in the United States the most if there were an outbreak starting tomorrow.

Include a title page and a reference list. You must cite and reference the website and at least one other source. You may use your text as a source.

Remember to always cite your sources using APA Style 7^th edition. Be sure to support your paper with references from the week’s readings and other relevant resources.
