North Carolina State University Electoral College System in The Presidential Election Paper
Question Description
Research paper information (mostly from syllabus).
You are to write a 6-10 page paper outlying one change you would like to make to the US federal government or political system. There are three elements to the paper.
- What problem would you like to see fixed or reformed? You must clearly identify what you would like to change and demonstrate why it is a problem.
- What is your reform? Clearly identify what you would do to fix the problem and show why your proposed reform would be an improvement.
- How would it be done? What needs to be done to make your proposal a reality: an executive order from the president? a law passed by Congress? an amendment to the Constitution? Showing that you know the process needed to enact your proposed reform will demonstrate that you have researched the issue.
Specifications of the paper (from syllabus)
- 6-10 full pages
- 12-point Times New Roman font
- unmodified margins
- double spaced
- An additional page will be allowed for notes and a bibliography.
- Use at least six sources. That cannot include Wikipedia or any other encyclopedia-type source, although you may use Wikipedia to find primary sources.
It is due by Saturday, October 3, at 11:59 PM.
I do not care which writing style you use (I personally use APA.) as long as you are consistent.
Please post your reform idea here. I will contact you if I see a problem with your proposal. Otherwise, feel free to start your research on it. You may have the same topic as another student.
If you have any questions, post them here with your proposal or email me.
NOTE: I want to reemphasize that this paper is about “one change you would like to make to the US federal government or political system”. In other words, what you would like to change about our political process. It is not a paper about a policy you would like the government to enact. To use the old sausage analogy, this paper is about what kind of sausage maker we should have, not what flavor sausage we want. You can think about things you have always wanted to change about our system or skim the textbook for ideas.
For example, wanting to lower the drinking age is a policy proposal and not an acceptable topic; wanting to prevent the US government from using highway grant money to blackmail states (into, for example, setting the drinking age at 21) is a proposed reform to the political system.
* we already have the topic. Just ignore the bottom part of this!!!!
