West Virginia University Online learning Problem Statement Discussion

Problem statements identify the health problem that is the focus of the rationale. They include why it is a problem and why it should be dealt with. You will find a library discussion board and library videos to help you with your research for this project. These resources will help you with finding and citing the appropriate background literature for your project. You will need to find articles to support your problem statement. If you have questions after viewing these library resource videos, please post your question on the library discussion board or email the instructor. You will be using the online Rowan libraries for this project.

Problem Statement example:

“The number of children entering kindergarten who have not received their vaccinations continues to increase. In the 2013-2014 school year, 29% of children did not get their vaccines. This is an increase from 20% in the previous year. Many parents do not feel that it is necessary because it doesn’t appear to affect their children (i.e. few cases of measles). However, infectious disease remains a major cause of disability, illness and mortality in young children(why it is a problem). Vaccines are among the most cost-effective clinical preventive services to prevent the rising rates of early mortality among children (why it should be dealt with).”

1. Write a problem statement that addresses an issue of your choice for a particular population you are interested in working with. For example, college students and Depression, college students and Alcohol use, or teenagers and Smoking. Remember: show the relationship of the local health problem to the bigger problem, identify the health problem that is the focus of the rationale, include why it is a problem and why it should be dealt with, include supporting data from a quick review of online stats. This should be no more than 5-6 sentences. You should cite any statistics you use in APA format.
2. Decide what would be the ideal health promotion program to deal with this problem, but don’t post it yet.
