Texas Southern University US History Photos from 1945 Analytical Reviews

This assignment based on the assigned reading, Hillbilly Nationalist, Urban Race Rebels, and Black Power by Amy Sonnie and James Tracy. It is made up of two components, part written and part analysis of the primary sources (photos from the book). For the written portion, students should produce a two-page review of the book using Times New Roman, 12-point font throughout. At a minimum, the review should contain four basic elements including the book’s purpose, structure, thesis, and a section on how this book relates to the class. For the purpose section, students must provide, in their own words, what they believe the author’s purpose was for writing this book. For the structure section, students must describe how many chapters, parts, illustrations, and sources make up this book. For the thesis section, students must address what they feel is the author’s point or points of view. For the last section, students must discuss how the book relates to the topics covered in class. The two-page review is part one of the Book Assignment. Students will have to print out the two pages and scan them along with pages of part two of the Book Assignment which consists of examining the book’s primary sources (photos from the book).

For part two, students must examine ten primary sources (the book’s photos), determined by the instructor, of the assigned reading. Students must think critically as they analyze ten of the sources and answer several questions proposed to them by the instructor. Parts one and parts two of the Book Assignment are to be combined and turned in together. This assignment is for a total of 100 points.
