HCI Design Diary

You are required to analyze user issues with any three-interactive

technology of your choice.

Describe the problem, analyze it in HCI terms, recommend re-design options

Use any interactive technology out there:

o Websites, ATMs, Phones, Computers, Apps, Cars, anything with a microchip, etc.

Important Considerations

Relevance: Is it a HCI design issue

Description: Can the reader envisage the issue clearly

Theory: how does the issue relate to known HCI design principle and theories from

the literature

Recommendations: How might the issues be resolved?

– Actionable recommendation statement (i.e. Provide, support, etc.).

One paragraph justifying the recommendation (what specific findings led to

it). If this is a refinement of a general user interface design principle, state the

principle and provide a reference to it.

– Provide a rich description/ design to visualize how each of your

recommendations would be implemented. You could sketch out your

recommendation, take screen shots of a similar app and annotate them with

descriptions and/or sketches of the required design changes in line with your

design recommendation, etc. The goal is to help the marker understand how

your recommendation might be realized in actual system.

Note: You should analyze at least three distinct technologies and identify at least two design

issues in each.

Below are examples of HCI design diaries. Do not copy or repeat any of the designs

presented in the class.
