From racial injustice, to the rescue of beauty, to the social role and plight of women in our culture, we turn now to two (2) very modern and very important literary and artistic genres: that of the “absurd” and that of the world of “performance art.” Both genres have informed and motivated literary production; especially in the latter part of the twentieth and the beginning of our current, century.

Please read A Hunger Artist, by Franz Kafka. Please also do some background reading on the idea and notion of the “absurd” in literature, and on the genre that has come to be known as “performance art.” Introductory material on both of these topics is easily available with a simple browser search.
