Definition of Policy Reply 1 to Teacher in regard to my post ( I work in the Homehealth Field):

Hi – excellent details well supported by examples to explain your definition of policy, as it relates to healthcare and outside of the industry. What are your thoughts on policy during this current healthcare crisis? Do you see any connections at this time between the healthcare policies and those designed for organizations outside of healthcare? Thank you.

Definition of Policy Reply to Rylee:

Hello Class & Professor Roopnarinesingh,

This week we read about policy and were asked to share which definition of policy makes the most sense to us. I appreciate how Mckinsey & Company(2018) define policy:

“A policy is a deliberate system of principles to guide decisions and achieve rational outcomes. A policy is a statement of intent, and is implemented as a procedure or protocol. Policies are generally adopted by a governance body within an organization.

Policy or policy study may also refer to the process of making important organizational decisions, including the identification of different alternatives such as programs or spending priorities.

Health policy refers to decisions, plans, and actions that are undertaken to achieve specific health care goals within a society. It outlines priorities and the expected roles of different groups; and it builds consensus and informs people.”

As someone who thrives of structure, I appreciate policy. I believe that having a universal guideline creates a clear plan of action and desired expectations, which helps in keeping all employees and staff of an organization on the same page. Policy is even more important in healthcare because medical staff need quality and safe care to all patients while caring for their lives, there is no room for “hiccups” or “mishaps”.
