Peer Editing Checklist for Compare and Contrast Essay

Directions: Read through the entire essay for a clear understanding of what the essay is trying to communicate. Then, answer the following questions.

1. Is there a hook?
2. Is it related in some way to the rest of the essay?
3. Make comments or suggestions for improvement.
4. What is the thesis statement?
5. What are the two things being compared?
6. Have they been properly introduced in the introduction?
7. Does the thesis state a preference for one author over other?
8. Does the author state his/her opinion on the topic?
9. Make any recommendations.
10. Does the introduction flow?
11. Does each sentence relate in some way to the next one?
12. Do the sentences seem to just be placed haphazardly together? Explain.
13. Do the body paragraphs each begin with a topic sentence?
