Every culture produces creative works that record and represent the intrinsic nature of that culture.

In a sense, it is produced by every member of that culture as they make the intellectual contributions that form the work. One might even say that the culture itself owns the work.

That’s the question we are considering here. With respect to antiquities that have been taken outside their cultural origins, who is the rightful owner?

Can people long removed from their ancestors declare ownership of their ancient works and demand to reclaim them?

What makes a work so important that loss of the work diminshes a nation?
