Address the prompts below, in 1000 to 1250 words. Your work should conform to the Guide to Writing attached, and it should cite sources using any reasonable bibliographic format. Your paper should be in MS Word, with 1.5 line spacing and 14-POINT TIMES ROMAN FONT, and it should include a word count at the top.

Prompts:

1. How has the world’s geography impacted the development of art? You may focus on Western art, though you need not.
2. At the end of her article, Bardo lists a number of artistic icons. (Icons by definition are widely recognizable; recognizability is a function of publicity; the greatest publicity machine in the world is Hollywood; and Hollywood producers are biased toward Western works of art. There is, therefore, a Western bias to Bardo’s list, a bias that has nothing to do with the intrinsic value of a piece of work.)
   1. From the list, choose three icons that you are already familiar with, and look them up on the internet. Do you learn anything new about them that you did not previously know?
   2. From the list, choose three icons that you are not already familiar with, look them up on the internet, and report on your findings.
   3. Do you know of any famous pieces of art that are not on the list? Name and describe three such icons.
