From the syllabus (p.4) Who or What is Missing? (Ted Talks pre-assigned videos) (Four short papers, 5% each, 20% total) Throughout the semester you will watch several Ted Talks that will help you think more about intersectional oppression. Who is seen as different and less than? In each of these stories, you will not only trace the impact of the isms/phobias/biases but will also search for what is missing. For example, is the video addressing misogyny and sexism but failing to address class or race simultaneously? After you watch the video you will fill in the script described in the textbook (p. 20). You will also hand in a brief report defining at least one of the concepts you chose and including an example from the news, media, your own experience, etc.
You will hand in two of these short essays before the midterm on Monday, October 5th, and two during the second half of the semester. I will provide the options for the videos you must watch and from those you will pick the two you will write about before the midterm.
Format: Typed, one page, double-spaced paper using 12-point Times New Roman font, 1-inch margins, and proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
