This assignment, due by midnight of 3/29, is worth 10% points. The usual late submission policy will apply. Use the separate Forum (“Questions on Financial Statements Analysis Assignment”) for any queries.
Note – THIS IS AN EXTREMELY IMPORTANT ASSIGNMENT BECAUSE YOU WILL BE DOING A SIMILAR EXERCISE IN YOUR FINAL PAPER. IF THE ASSIGNMENT IS COMPLETE (THERE ARE NO MISSING PIECES) – YOU WILL GET A MINIMUM OF 5% POINTS FOR ATTEMPT (EVEN IF SOME OF YOUR CALCULATIONS ARE INCORRECT). The rest of the grade will depend on how well you do on the assignment.
ASSIGNMENT
1. Input into an Excel spreadsheet the FY 2016 numbers for the company Sturm, Ruger & Co, as given on pages C-202 and C-203 of your text-book. These are part of Case Study #15, towards the end of the text.
2. Next, go to pages C-11 and C-12 of the text. Here you have a list of several financial ratios. Using the numbers that you have put in, CALCULATE AS MANY FINANCIAL RATIOS AS YOU CAN for the company for year 2016.
3. In your spreadsheet, I want to see the following: (a) the name of the ratio that you are calculating (b) number or numbers that go into the numerator (c) number or numbers that go into the denominator and (d) the calculation of the ratio.
4. Just for the first ratio mentioned on page C-11 (Return on Total Assets), there are two formulas. Calculate both.
5. You should be able to calculate most if not all of the ratios. However, if you are unable to find a number from the financials because it is missing, CLEARLY STATE what number is missing and therefore which is the ratio that you are unable to calculate. DO NOT go outside of the case study numbers to do extra research to find the missing number. We shall stick to what is available in the case-study.
Post the spreadsheet, as an Excel attachment showing all of your work, on this Forum.
