Question Description
WEEKS 9 & 10: Annotated Bibliography/Seminar Talk Prep: Your Annotated bibliography consists of 6-8 sources. The sources you list in your bibliography may not necessarily be all the sources your end up using in your paper.
Your 6-8 sources need to:
- Explore narratives (at least two) representing the contemporary site of trauma: these can be media sources, internet sources, popular culture sources,
- Substantively engage with psychological theories of trauma;
- Use newspapers, magazines, internet sites, etc. as background contextual sources for your site of trauma.
Format for Annotated Bibliography:
- Preliminary statement of your contemporary site of trauma: about 75-100 words.
- Brief overview of your research into background contextual sources for your issue (3 sentences). Then, for each source:
- Provide the correct APA reference citation with correct indentation, formatting, etc.
- Summarize: Identify the writer(s) and his/her/their background or angle of vision. This is a very important step for any analytical project. For interdisciplinarians it is uniquely important to introduce the writer in terms of his/her disciplinary perspective. You should do this in about 75
- Assess: Once you’ve summarized the source, describe how it has helped give you a specific perspective on the site of trauma and how will you use it in conversation with the other sources? At least 75
- Brief overview of your research into narrative representations of the issue (3-sentences). Then, for each source:
- Provide the correct APA reference citation with correct indentation, formatting, etc.
- Summarize: Identify the writer(s) and his/her/their background or angle of vision. This is a very important step for any analytical project. - Assess: Once you’ve summarized the source, you need to ask how it fits into your How has it helped give you a specific perspective on the experience of trauma and how will you use it in conversation with the other sources? In this case, give a sense of where, specifically, you might focus your close-reading. At least 75 words.
- Integration: What is the new broader understanding you are bringing to the analysis of your problem/issue/question? What are you adding to the conversation and why does this seem important to a better understanding of your problem/issue/question?
Seminar Talk: Plan on a 10- minute Seminar Talk where you will discuss your approach to your project and your insights. An additional 5 minutes will be spent fielding questions in a question and answer period. Be prepared to discuss what contribution your project makes to the study of contemporary sources of trauma. As a part of your presentation, also be prepared to discuss the process of working on and completing this project, including such questions as: why you chose this project; what you learned about yourself in the process of completing the project; what you would do differently given the opportunity.
