SDSU Media Tropes Costumes and Appropriation of Indigenous Women Discussion

In Module 14 we have explored the issue of Missing and Murdered Women and Girls and the media iconography surrounding Indigenous women that helps generate this crisis. For this week’s discussion board use what you learned from the lecture and our four brief readings to explain the dangers of media tropes, costumes, and appropriation to an uniformed reader. Are media images/costumes neutral? Do they tell a story? If so what story? and how do those stories lead to real world outcomes?

Response to a fellow student (10 Points – 100 words)

A B level response (7-8 points) Represents a good faith by the student to respond to their peer, but is light on details from the text.

A C level response (5-6 points) Will be primarily personal opinion unsupported by details from the text.

A 0 (zero) will be earned by a lack of a response by the due date.
