SDSU Changes Between the Films of Beauty & The Beast 1991 & 2017 Discussion

I’m working on a english writing question and need support to help me learn.

Madame de Villeneuve’s original story of La Belle et La Bête got ‘Disney-fied,’ not once, but twice–and, as frequently happens, some things shifted in the retellings.

What, in your opinion, are the two most significant changes between the 1991 and 2017 films, and why do you suspect the texts are different in those ways? It’s NOT enough to say one film is animated, while the other is live-action (but you would never say anything that inane, of course).

[Some points to consider: Is one version more or less Gothic than its sibling? Are character portrayals better/worse from one version to the next? What role does music play in the narrative? And perhaps most important, what effect does live-action have on an audience (specifically, a child audience) that animation might not make?]
