Global health is similar to public health but the two are not the same. Public health is broad and focuses on the science, practice and efforts to prevent disease, promote health, and prolong quality of life, while assuring healthy conditions in people (WUSTL, n.d.). While global health is study, research and practices which prioritizes improving health and equity in health for all people worldwide (WUSTL, n.d.). Global health focuses on the health issues that transcends national borders and places greater priority on prevention, curative, and rehabilitative. To put things in perspective, the World Health Organization (WHO) was created to attended the needs on a global scale and to bring attention about what health concerns are occurring on international waters. In 1948, when WHO officially the international health agency it not only set health standards, but data collection, epidemiologic surveillance, training and research, emergency relief, and cooperative activities (Birn, 2009).

There was a global fund to fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria, which set up direct resources to country coordinating groups, gathered public-private partnership, involved governments, pharmaceutical companies, and foundations; the WHO administered part of the fight and the World Bank assisted by financially assisting the global program (GHEC, n.d.). With the existence of international travel, it is almost impossible to say that there is a country isolated from foreigners. The increases of international sales and travel increases the risk of the spread of infectious diseases, COVID-19 being one example, each country takes different steps to protect its citizens. That is why global health is important because it focuses more on the health care problems on an international level and finding ways to prevent communicable and non-communicable diseases for global health.
