Persuasive Speech Pandemics Management Paper

For your persuasive speech, you will need to find at least two credible research sources, including:

• one general-interest periodical (see the Library link or check with a CSU librarian)

• one article or report from a government (.gov) or non profit (.org) website (try adding a space and then “site:.org” or “site:.gov” to the end of your Google search)

• one more credible source (any kind, such as an interview)

Once you have found your sources, you’re ready to write your annotated bibliography.

• First, create a bibliographic citation for each source in MLA, APA, or Chicago style. I provided some tips in the videos for this module, and there is an MLA guide in the “help documents” folder.

• Next, beneath each source write two sentences. In the first sentence, tell me what information from that source you plan on using in the speech. In the second sentence, tell me in your own words why you think the source is credible. (Use the four questions that I gave you in the “Evaluating Sources” video.)

Here is an example:

“Kentucky Lethal Injection Protocol Under Scrutiny.” Death Penalty Information Center. N.p., n.d. Web. 05 June 2014.

This source talks about the fact that Kentucky is reviewing its lethal execution drugs because those drugs led to a botched execution in Ohio. The Death Penalty Information Center is credible because they have been around for almost 25 years, they have received numerous awards for their work, and because they do not favor either side in the death penalty debate.

Tips:

• Write the annotations in your own words.

• If you are using a source for several pieces of information, you only need to mention one of those pieces of information in your annotation.

• If your source is so widely recognized that you do not think anyone would question their credibility (e.g. the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, or Environmental Protection Agency) just say “________ is widely recognized as a credible source.” Only do this if you think the source would be immediately familiar to the audience and trusted implicitly.

• There are several links on D2L that will assist you in formatting your bibliographic entries. (For the example above I used EasyBib.) However, if you use one of these websites, you must put in all the correct and necessary information, or the citation they provide will be incorrect.
