Intro:
All human beings have an edge- meaning, a place where they would rather not go, a place that is uncomfortable, a learned behavior or bias that theyd rather not highlight. (Indeed, we often have more than one edge.)
What would happen if we were encouraged to be curious about our edges instead of shameful? To question why we are uncomfortable, instead of fearing discourse? To think and talk about our questions or fears, instead of assuming we have to know it all, or be perfect?
Goal:
You will write a reflective essay shedding light on an internal struggle or bias that arose for you during the past few years of personal and professional growth.
- You will briefly summarize your understanding about one of the topics covered in our course thus far, specifically focusing on the topics of religion, gender expansivity, neurodiversity, English Language Learners, or power/classroom management.
- You will discuss your individual bias, and how it intersects with your role as a teacher in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in your school community and beyond.
- Finally, you will share how you intend to continue to evolve in this area, steps you have/will take, and resources/colleagues who you can turn to for help!
