stephanies post:
What steps do you plan to take to transition your paper to a presentation?
To transition my paper to a presentation, I am planning to reread my final version of a paper by highlighting the most important aspects of each section. The presentation slides have to be short and concise in order to capture each issue in my final paper. After I distinguish the most significant parts, I will shorten the sentences if they are too long. Each slide of the presentation will cover one of the sections of my final paper by communicating its main message, problem, aims, and solution. I will add graphics and/or tables to make the presentation more structured.
Which key ideas will you focus on?
I will focus on the central ideas of my final paper, such as the impact of the opioid epidemic on the health, economy, and social status of the American people by focusing on the vulnerable population groups. The presentation has to include only the most important ideas of my paper in a short and well-structured form.
What questions do you have about using Panopto for your presentation?
I am still analyzing all features this software has. My concern now is how to merge the presentation I made in PowerPoint with the video where I am going to talk. Also, I need to find out how to make this process smoother and aesthetically pleasing. I have not used similar software before, which makes me nervous.
What recording device will you use?
I have a built-in camera on my laptop. However, it is not of the best quality. I was considering borrowing a camera for a laptop to create a video of better quality.
Share some tips and tricks you have learned for delivering a powerful presentation. How confident are you presenting your paper via video? Explain.
For delivering a powerful presentation, I am planning to concentrate on the main message of my paper, which I think, represents a relevant and urgent topic for the American people and the government. The focus of my presentation would remain on the contribution my analysis could make in terms of awareness among people regarding the opioid epidemic. The presentation has to remain on point throughout the entire process, be short, and concise. I think I can convey the central points of my paper within the provided time frame and retain the attention of the audience.
What are your strengths and weaknesses when it comes to giving video presentations?
I think that my main strengths include important and well-written content, visual aesthetics of the presentation, research that I conduce while working on my paper, and an interesting topic. However, I am not very comfortable with recording a video presentation that would require me to talk. I always considered that I am a better writer than a talker. For example, I have noticed that I insert some unnecessary words or phrases when giving a presentation. I am afraid that it would affect the overall quality of the final product.
How will you maximize your strengths?
I am planning to practice giving video presentations and will analyze how I talk, if I stay on point, and if I need more time to record a high-quality video. I would ensure my presentation reflects my final paper and has enough graphics and visual support.
