LIT 150 University of California Social Justice Black Lives Matter Movement Research

To write a 4,000-word research paper on a topic of your own choosing. Some possibilities include writing about a specific novel, writer, genre, style, movement, period, place, city, or film adaptation. You are encouraged to relate literature to broader artistic, social,national, cultural, political contexts. If you select a book not on the course reading list, please check your selection with me. Demonstrate to me in your paper that you have conducted research, thought deeply about at least one work of literature, and have read and cited at least 4-6 sources (preferably books or articles rather than Wikipedia entries). Online resources such as Google Scholar and JSTOR (available on the UCI Library website) may be particularly helpful. Please use at least two articles from JSTOR and one scholarly book (published by a university press). I can also suggest primary and secondary readings. You should not write about the same texts you analyzed in your midterm essay. Long quotations from the readings should be avoided. If you do include long quotations, your essay should be longer than 4,000 words. Try to be analytical and interpret literary form rather than praise the genius of a particular creative figure.
