Post 1 The narratives of Frederick Douglas and Harriet Jacobs in a way share the same viewpoints as they are both enslaved. Although Jacobs had a fair complexion than Douglas they were both treated more than unfairly. They both had masters that were cruel to them both and treated them as property. Douglas tells bis story with great imagery and anger and pain in his words as he isn’t afraid to speak about his experiences. Jacobs told her story in a way that seemed like she almost feels bad that she is telling her story for others. She constantly has to reiterate that her stories are true and gives explanations for her actions. The way they recount their experiences is a big difference in their viewpoints. a In Douglas’s narratives he mainly speaks on what is expected of a male salve; they are to be kept ignorant and submissive. This runs true with what is expected of female slaves as well since Jacobs wrote that her master told her she must comply with anything he says. Jacobs had to worry about her virginity as well though. Douglas and Jacob’s had similar experiences since Douglas mentioned that his aunt had a close eye on her to make sure she wasn’t fooling around with no man and if she was she was stripped and whipped. As for Jacobs she explains that her master was drawn to her over her virginity but she wanted to take loosing her virginity into her own hands and that her master would eventually show no interest in bedding her. They both told a story that depicted women being controlled more over their own body. Both narratives were interesting to read due to the fact on how they were written. They had both experienced pain and fear in similar ways and in their own different ways in such great detail.

In my opinion, I believe both, Harriet Jacobs and Frederick Douglas, reflect their viewpoints differently, and the same, certainly in their own ways. In both narratives show how each took matters into their own hands and stood up for themselves. I believe both present information about the distinct experiences face by both males and females. I do not believe the present information equal, the female slave experience included sexual abuse.
Jacobs expresses the sexual exploitation and experience of female slaves. Throughout her narrative, she provided information on her experiences of being raped. Jacobs was very direct and stated no exaggeration of slavery and wrongdoings to woman slaves. Douglas was extremely direct and graphic, he wanted to give us the full description and helped us form a picture in our own minds.
I do believe that both passages being interesting. The passages are interesting because they each express their slave experiences and their reactions to the matter. Harriet Jacobs and Frederick Douglas experiences and their narrative can not be compared by any means. I feel that I lean more towards Harriet Jacobss story as more interesting than Frederick Douglass story. I found it to be more interesting because I can relate as a female , and not by any means try to compare that of my experiences to Harriet Jacobs.
