INTLI 204 Indiana University Global Studies & Gender Equality Discussion

Question Description

I’m working on a global studies report and need a sample draft to help me learn.

Each class member will engage in research on a human rights issue and individually act as an advocate pushing for action on a particular humanitarian cause. You will develop an action campaign to educate us about a particular issue and urge us to act. This will include a history of the issue and a discussion of a particular case (such as a country case where the issue is particularly problematic). This detailed investigation in part 1 should be 5 pages long and utilize at least 5 sources. More specific guidelines follow below for each section of part I. Double space and use consistent parenthetical citation or footnotes in Chicago, MLA or APA citation style.

(part 2 will address the particular laws violated and make a case for what could be done and include your call to arms)

Specific guidelines for writing the paper part 1:

In a five page, double spaced paper, outline the topic you have been investigating in your human rights research paper. Your part 1 paper should include the following which is an expansion of the first portions of your topic statement:

THE RIGHTS VIOLATIONS

  1. What is the human rights issue you have been researching? (This can be an expansion from your topic statement complete with changes you may have made based on further research). This should include your thesis statement or research question. Describe the details of your case in as much length as you can. Explain your country or regional case if you have one, and go into depth on the contextual (social, economic, political, religious or other) factors that intertwine with this issue to make it as critical as you argue it is. (Is there an ongoing conflict, are there specific groups that are benefiting from aid from other nations that add fuel to the violations, are there gender norms in place that contribute to rates of violence?) Provide enough detail here to explain the broader context of this issue in the society or region you are focusing on.

THE HARMS

  1. How does this rights violation impact people? What are the specific harms people face and what are they denied from (these could be physical, social, cultural, economic, religious, or civil in nature). What are the exact violations involved in this case? Here you are expanding on your topic statement with specific, extended evidence and data from the resources you have been reading. Violations need to be addressed in detail and may be multi-layered as in many of the cases we have described in the course materials. In some cases, long histories of enslavement or colonial oppression, Apartheid systems, political oppression, or racial or ethnic institutionalized oppression may be part of the context. Make sure to address all the issues that have led to the contemporary harms you have researched.

BIBLIOGRAPHY

  1. You should have 5 sources in your bibliography for this paper and cite them in the body of your paper when drawing upon their content. Remember that these should be academic journals, IGO reports and human rights reports. You may have additional news sources you found as well. You may use parenthetical citation or footnotes from MLA, Chicago, or APA citation.
