With the current technology boom, some argue that we are living in a “modern day gold rush.” Do you agree with this statement?

I agree with the statement. “modern day gold rush.” is a metaphor for today’s current technology boom. In 1848, people were pursuing gold, rights and land in the west. Now with the development of science and technology, the western Silicon Valley area is a world-renowned high-tech area. It is an ideal working area for all IT workers in the world. In the article “Manifest Destiny”, “The great influx of diverse people clashed in a combative and aggrandizing atmosphere of individualistic pursuit of fortune. Linguistic, cultural, economic, and racial conflict roiled both urban and rural areas.” (THE AMERICAN YAWP, Manifest Destiny). This can show that the western United States will be a place where multiple ethnic groups develop together, just like the current racial diversity. People in the past came to the American West to pan for gold. Most of the modern people who come to the western United States to seek jobs are toward technological development and choose to work in IT companies. Just as computer science is a very popular major nowadays, there is great competition among IT jobs in the western United States.
I also searched the percentage of the population in the Silicon Valley area. In 2009, the Asian population accounted for 28.9%, blacks accounted for 2.5%, Hispanic or Latino population accounted for 25.6%, and whites accounted for 39.2%. After 10 years of development, in 2019, the Asian population accounted for 35.3%, blacks accounted for 2.3%, Hispanic or Latino population accounted for 24.7%, and whites accounted for 32.7%. Judging from this data, there will be more and more Asians in the Silicon Valley area. This is “modern day gold rush.”
