If you remember, during the summer of 2019, large parts of the Amazon Rainforest were destroyed due to widespread forest fires. The fires opened a global dialogue regarding the preservation of the Amazon and its importance for Global environmental health. During the 2019 G7 submit, French President Macron brought attention to the fires and asked the G7 nations (US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan) to start a dialogue regarding taking action against the fires and their cause. In response, Brazilian President Bolsonaro accused Macron of a “misplaced colonialist mindset” as he was suggesting taking action that would interfere in Brazil’s sovereignty over its own land. Bolsonaro has been accused of making executive decisions within Brazil that have hindered efforts to control the fires and thus made them worse.

In a one page essay , how do you situate the tension between France and Brazil in this context within the overall topic about globalization of interests and sovereignty?
