The nursing profession is one that evolves and grows steadily to meet patient needs. These advances in technology are often brought to the bedside by research efforts, but it is not a simple feat. It is critical that scientific evidence is transferred to clinical practice in order for healthcare to be secure, open, reliable, and responsive and to fulfill patient, family, and social needs. (Curtis et al., 2016) The incorporation of technology into practice is starting to be a lot more standardized. According to research, the right technology will help with increased efficiency, improved quality, and lower costs. In addition, a study of the efficacy of computerized physician order entry (CPOE) in hospitals to minimize prescription errors and adverse drug reactions discovered that implementing a CPOE with clinical decision support resulted in a substantial decrease in medication errors and adverse drug reactions. (Alotaibi & Federico, 2017) Common barriers for translating research into practice as well as barriers to implementing technology into practice are that there are human participants, which leads to many variables. Human participants come from all sides of the healthcare industry, including patients and healthcare workers. To reap the gains, all members must effectively use the technology. In addition, a lack of resources, as well as a lack of financial resources, will discourage healthcare organizations from investing in this technology. Security breaches are also a concern and pose as another barrier. The success of research implementation in healthcare is largely dependent on clinician/consumer behavior change, therefore, as Curtis et. al (2017) points out, it is important that the implementation strategy incorporates this.
