Background: Chris McCandless viewed life as something to be truly lived, not just talked about; he craved honesty, transparency, the natural world, and solitude. Randy Pausch was raised to have fun which allowed him to enjoy life until his dying day, despite having terminal cancer. According to Hamlet, life is full of hardships to endure, but believed fate would lead him where he needed to be. Roger Ebert, despite his crippling journey through cancer, showed that his passion for words drove his purpose in life.

Prompt: How should we value and measure human life? What makes us whole? Do suffering and illness play a role in achieving this mindset, or can/should we reach this on our own? In a five-paragraph essay, explain your culminating viewpoint on this topic.
