ENG 101 SDSU The Pandemic Through the Perspective of An Animal Discussion

Question Description

  • For example, I have two dogs and a cat, and they all reacted differently to the quarantine experience. My older dog (labradoodle, 8-years-old) enjoyed having us home at first, but he also enjoyed having the house to himself and sleeping on the couches. The younger dog (1-year-old, white Weimaraner), was a puppy when the pandemic began and has never experienced having us humans away from home. She thinks this is normal! But she also has severe social anxiety (because of her breed and the lack of social interactions), so going to dog parks or meeting new people stresses her out. As for the cat (fluffy white, 9-year-old), she has become complete attached to my daughter and never leaves her side. That said, she also sees my daughter’s room as hers and has boundary issues while my daughter does her virtual learning (climbing on the desk, computer, lap, etc.).
  • As you can see, just with my pets, one can create some humorous and absurdist stories. Take whatever tone you’d like. Sometimes writing an animal as moody and sophisticated is fun; or writing them dumb and dopey; or internalizing the existential dread we all feel from time to time. Don’t be afraid to personify the animal and feel free to give them internal dialogue.
  • Most importantly, have fun!
