Energy Consumption Physics Lab Report
Question Description
Finish the physics lab in the documents below and follow the instructions.1)
You want to build a DIY off-grid PV system that produces enough electricity to cover your daily electricity needs. Follow the steps as discussed in the lecture to calculate how many batteries and PV modules you need to purchase that suits your system.
1. Revisit your lab results from week 3 and list what your daily electricity needs per electrical device are (ignore all non-electrical energy needs for this exercise). Whats your total daily electricity need (in kWh)? Now round up the number to a reasonable value.
2. Following the instructions from the lecture, calculate how many 50 Ah charge capacity batteries (using 48 V batteries) you need for your off-grid system assuming that you want your system to last for a total of 3 cloudy consecutive days.
3. Please choose your favorite place in the USA as the location for your PV system. Where will your system be? Use the data from the given Photovoltaic Power Potential map to extract the number for the total kWp size of your system. Whats the total size? How many 200Wp PV modules do you need to purchase for your system adding a 10% contingency.
Note: I suggest you prepare your calculations and estimations in a separate word document first. When you have completed your task, please copy and paste the text from your word document into the given textbox of this assignment. Please note that equations, pictures, or special symbols might not be supported by the textbox. Please list all information about your calculations and estimations and not just the final result.
