In his book, “Steal Like an Artist,” Austin Kleon writes, artists are like good collectors. They only collect what they love. He says, “You’re only as good as the stuff you surround yourself with.”

“Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, poems, dreams, random conversations, architectures, bridges, clouds, bodies of water, street signs, trees, light and shadows. Select only only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. -Jim Jarmusch

Reflect on your improvisational process of working with the outdoor sculptures. What aspect did you ” steal”? How did you put that into your body? What variation did you make on this aspect which is your own artistist voice? (150 words)

Question2: This module is focused on several aspects of dance therapy with children. The video, “The Moving Child” will detail the development of human movement frm birth to early childhood. It shows how educators and therapists help children progress in their motor development as well as emotional, social and cognitive development. In class, you will experience the use of play. movement games, and goals for working with children with special needs. You will see examples of this in the video, “A Time to Dance” with dance therapist Norma Canner. There will be a TED talk on children exposed to trauma, and in class you will work with drawing and movement to respond with a coping skill.

2. Make a picture of a monster. Describe your monster, how does look or move?, What is special about your monster? Dialogue with your monster. Any of these questions may help you discover more about your monster: Where does it come from? What is its purpose? How does it feel? What does it want? What does it need? What does it want from you? What does your monster give you and what do you give your monster? If want you can add something to the pictures that gives the monster what it needs. Thank your monster for showing up today.
